I really like the TV. It is easy to operate and has a fantastic picture. But lately (about 4 months post purchase) my TV has been acting up insofar as the remote control. I, of course, put in fresh batteries and I also have a universal that does the same thing, which is…

The TV occasionally doesn’t react to the remote at all, occasionally reacts so-so to the remote, and occasionally acts as expected with the remote. Initially, it had perfect as expected remote control response.

It’s semi-tolerable, but somewhat irritating to have the push the vol. or channel button repeatedly to get a reaction. So far, it eventually reacts every time, with the number of button presses between 1 and 5 times. As I write this, I’m realizing that it’s wearing pretty thin.

I Googled the problem and it has been documented on some Vizio TVs, but I didn’t find any solutions, including a failed attempt at a replacement remote control from Vizio.

The only other complaint I can think of is that the PIP kind of sucks. One can’t “swap” the pictures and it’s slow and clumsy to maneuver through the menu to exchange the PIP and main picture if you’re channel surfing while waiting for your program to continue.

I’m probably going to take the TV back and exchange for the same TV and give it another try, as I really do like the TV, and think it was a great purchase.

CHEAP LG 32LD350 32-Inch 720p 60 Hz LCD HDTV

I base my rating on the value for the money and how I plan to use the TV as opposed to a comparison to newer TVs on the market.

720p which is perfectly suitable for my needs. While I haven’t yet attached a PC to this device my understanding is that 1080p is where you want to be if using as a PC monitor is of importance. On another note I wouldn’t say this is great looking or cheap looking TV. Just a very middle of the road appearance.

Pro
* Nice picture with rich color.
* Nice picture controls (backlight, contrast, brightness, color, tint,H-sharpness, V-Sharpness, etc)
* Nice menuing system
* The remote is basic without being cheap or annoying. Rubberized keys but they do not glow. The remote is not too big or too small either.
* Standard Definition TV looks pretty good on this TV. I use the mode that automatically resizes the image based on the signal which means I view std tv in a 4:3 box (I do not stretch).

Cons
* The power on light is too large and annoying (at least 2″ wide). The same light turns red when off and that is my problem. I don’t need or want a light that tells me the TV is off. (Blue=on and No Light would have been preferrable). Perhaps I can disable or tape over it.
* The speakers are NOT front firing. They fire to the back or down. This may be a problem for some. I currently have it in a cabinet and it sounds fine but speakers on the bottom facing forward would be better. If you plan to use external speakers then this doesn’t really matter.
* No S-Video. To some with Standard Quality cable (not HD) the S-video provides the best image but unfortunately it isn’t avail.

In summation I think this TV is a nice value from a name brand manufacturer.

A great way to get into high-definition entertainment, the affordable 32-inch LG 32LD350 LCD HDTV offers a 720p HD resolution, multiple AV Modes to optimize the picture depending on what you’re watching (Cinema, Sports, or Games), and a 50,000:1 contrast ratio for excellent rendering of colors and deep blacks. Other features include a 4ms (millisecond) response time, stereo speakers with 14 watts of power and Dolby Digital decoding, and three HDMI inputs.

CHEAP LG 42LD550 42-Inch 1080p 120 Hz LCD HDTV

I finally took the leap to flat screen, LCD, HD television and have not been disappointed. I selected the 42 inch size as being about right for my den, and chose LG due to reviews and a few news articles about the television. The LG was easy to set up on its stand, although the construction of a new TV stand was not – but that’s another story! I get a great picture whether live or from DVD. I guess my only problem with it is that it has lots of gizmos to figure out. I tried to put on a wireless LAN and never could make it work. Ultimately I ran another cable from my router to the TV and that got the widgets and movie rental screen going. There are so many ways to modify the picture that it required me to spend some time with the manual and remote control. I didn’t know, for instance, that I could switch from HD to ‘normal’ picture on the same channel. All in all I am quite pleased with the product and my learning curve is my problem, not that of the product.

Great for sports and fast action, the 42-inch LG 42LD550 LCD HDTV offers 1080p Full HD resolution for crystal-clear detail, TruMotion 120Hz technology for virtually no motion blur, and a super-quick response time of 2.4ms (milliseconds). With LG’s NetCast, you get access to TV shows, movies and more, streamed directly from the Internet to your television screen. And the LD550 series also provides compatibility with Wireless 1080p Connectivity (wireless media kit required and sold separately).

Other features include an amazing 150,000:1 dynamic contrast ratio for more stunning colors and deeper blacks, two USB ports for connecting external drives for playing back MP3 audio, JPEG photo and DivX HD video files, stereo speakers with 20 watts of power and Dolby Digital decoding, and four HDMI inputs.

CHEAP Westinghouse LD-3255VX 32-Inch 720p LED HDTV, Black

After researching the purchase of 2 LCD TV’s for my kids, I was shopping around and discovered this Westinghouse. I actually didn’t think it would be a serious TV, as it was less money that comparable LCD TV’s sitting on either side of it on the stores shelf. All were on, and set to the same channel. So comparisons were easy! I was prepared to hate the Westinghouse, thinking is was in the same class as some of the “no name” brand sets..junk! After all it was less than 0.00!

But when we were getting ready to pick up the boxes of Phillips TV’s and put them in the cart to take home, we started reading the box thatthe Westinghouse was in. Did my eyes deceive me? Did it really say LED on it! No way. We walked over the the high end and expensive LCD TV’s. and the 32″ ones that said LED were 0.00 plus! Samsungs, Vizio, Panasonics, etc.

First of all, an explanation for the “electronically challenged among us..like me! A regular LCD TV uses fluorescent edge lighting to shine thru the LCDs to make the picture viewable. Good enough!

Then there are newer technology LCD TV’s with LED edge lighting…LED’s all the way around the screen shine thru and illuminate the TV screen. Saves energy because LEDs use a small fraction of the energy as the fluorescent lights. Better but the black and darker colors are not as “black”, and colors a bit washed out.

BUT…the Westinghouse LED back lit LCD’s have black blacks! Deeper color, brighter, vibrant colors (wait till you see the yellows!). And way less energy, about the same as a 40 watt light bulb. And the TV is slim..I mean slim!
1″ thick and 14 1/2 lbs!

Terrific featurers, nice price, outstanding technology for way less than others, all the featurers..great value over all! And I can’t even begin to tout the picture quality except to say you have got to see it yourself!

I have netflix subscription, the picture quality in netflix is perfect HD even if the movie I watch is not HD. I use my external hard drive connected thru USB of TV to watch and listen movies and songs. Even with out a cable connection we can enjoy the TV using Internet. Internt @ TV is really a very good concept. The only bad thing is that the internet connection is wired. Such a High end TV has wired connection, it should be wireless. We can achieve that using a wireless adapter which costs more. I purchased this with Kit which includes Blu-ray and 3d glasses. THe 3d glasses are very good. The bad thing is that we should change the bettaries if they are done. It would be good if they are rechargeable. We can buy 1 pair of rechargeable for 0, I will wait for the price drop and continue using the glasses provided by Samsung. There is no much thing to tell about the 3d blu-ray player. I have ordered the hdmi 1.4 cables and need to check the 3d content on how it comes. I have checked this in stores and it is so beautiful, there are no words to describe. If you want perfect sound it will be better to get a 3d surround Home theater system. the sound output is 20W. it is not a good sound. After some days of research, I found Onkyo HTS5300 System 7.1 3d surround Home Theater system with receiver. Onkyo HT-S5300 7.1-Channel Home Theater Receiver/Speaker Package with Dock for iPhone/iPod ( Black) Only limited stores have stock. Even if some stores take the order and after you pay they say the item is backordered. It will be better to inquire before you payThe output of the speaker system by onkyo is 1200W, it is so good. I havent ordered Onkyo system yet. I will order when it is available.

CHEAP Samsung LN55C650 55-Inch 1080p 120 Hz LCD HDTV (Black)

The C650 series from Samsung contains some older upgrade technology features such as CFL backlighting, 3.4″ depth, Touch of Color bezel, 120Hz Auto Motion plus and the ultra clear panel. This model falls in the lower to mid range of Samsung’s LCD/LED lineup. We thoroughly enjoyed last years B650 series LCD so were happy to review the successor model. And as anticipated, we were very pleased with the results. We hope that Samsung will continue to offer/produce a value oriented CFL backlit LCD TV as their technology contained in these TVs offer exceptional value combined with excellent quality.

Calibration: The 55C650 was very calibration friendly without going into the service menu. In fact, from the movie mode setting, there were only minor tweaks needed here and there to close in on D6500K. There is an ample array of calibration controls including white balance and noise reduction. The standard setting continues to have a major blue push. The Movie setting allows adjustment of all picture setting options and brings the picture to life.

White Balance Settings
Red – Offset 28
Green – Offset 25
Blue – Offset 16
Red – Gain 17
Green – Gain 25
Blue – Gain 21
Picture Settings
Picture Mode: Movie
Color Temp: Warm 2
Brightness: 47
Contrast: 95
Color: 49
Tint: G49/R51
Sharpness: 0
Backlight: 7
Picture Settings
Black Tone: Off
Dynamic Contrast: Off
Gamma: -1
Flesh Tone: 0
Edge Enhancement: Off
Digital NR: Auto
HDMI Black Level: Low
Film Mode: Off
Auto Motion: Standard
Blue Only Mode: Off

This LCD TV has a tremendous CFL backlight. We needed only set the backlight at 7 from the 1 – 20 scale to achieve a desirable picture in a darkly lit room. The backlight strength could come in handy. Use it to control viewing in bright to dark rooms rather than change the contrast or brightness controls.

Processor Testing: The internal processing chip sets for the C650 series LCDs are stout. Edges from test material are clear and crisp with both 480i and 1080i material. Transitions are extremely smooth, even from side to side panning or fast moving objects.

720p/1080i/1080p Picture Quality: Black levels are awesome as is contrast and brightness. Images are crisp and the detail is amazing with HD sources. Here’s the big dilemna with HD content; whether to use the 120Hz AutoMotion feature or turn it off. It is not really needed. HD Blu Rays and Broadcast material are already very clear – and the feature can introduce some unwanted kitchy side effects with the background material – even though much improved from last year. I recommend turning it off for most HD content, though there will be some occasional judder effects. I would use it for animated HD content, sports programming HD content, or other HD content that has lots of fast motion. Other than that I would turn it off (see how below in features section).

After turning off the 120Hz feature, high definition content appears vibrant, realistic and extremely crisp. Blacks are rich for an LCD and contrast is a strength. One of the highlight features of the LN55C650 is its picture depth perception. Samsung has been unparalled in this area lately. I believe this is due to the companies Ultra Clear Panel technology which does allow for some glare on the screen but the tradeoff with great depth and rich colors is a winner.

Black Level/Contrast/Contrast Ratio: Black Levels on the C650 series LCD HDTV is super saturated, as black as the glossy black bezel surrounding the screen. We measured post calibration ANSI contrast at an unbelievable 5408:1 with the backlight at 7. We believe contrast is enhanced by the Ultra Clear Panel that Samsung uses for this LCD TV. The TV can get extremely bright and has exceptional range. Contrast appears superb on this TV, and we don’t say that about many – especially not LCD TVs.

Internet Options: There is an array of Internet options, some proprietary. Samsung has increased the options. The Youtube option was pretty good. We found the Yahoo! Widgets in finance and weather pretty weak and non-worthy. Some other options are Panadora, Vudu, Blockbuster, Netflix, USA today AP new ticker.

Aesthetic Considerations: The C650 has lots of looks. The 55C650 is 3.4″ deep while the smaller units are 3.2″ deep. A nice wall mount or table top depth (without having to pay up for the super thin TVs). The framing bezel is a nice width about 2″. It’s black with a plexiglass overlay that goes just past the edges to give the appearance of glass. I like the effect. Under the center bottom frame there is a unique wide V shape and subtle silver gray and red Touch of Color. A nice little accent to a design that might be slightly boring with it. The sturdy swiveling table top stand must weight 12 pounds. It has an attractive glass surface with a clear neck. The stands allow for about 20 degrees of swivel.

It sounds worse on some things than others and I can live with it for the types of shows I watch (History channel, TLC, news, etc.).

The picture is great – super clean with very natural colors. Even standard definition looks reasonably good, better than on my 61″ model, I guess because everything’s squished down more.

Rapid motion is more blurry than my 120Hz TV, but that would be a fault of all 60Hz models, which is pretty universal in this size/price range.

I’d agree with other reviewers that the remote is not ergonomically good, not fitting in the hand well and buttons that don’t have a good feel. The volume is slow to change.

Overall I’m quite pleased with it.

My first impressions with this TV were the great resolution while watching Blu-ray movies (what I really think these screens are good for) and that the comments about HD shows and their “flawed” personalities was right on (ha!) I’ve connected the TV to a cable box and Sony Blue Ray player – so now I have three big remotes that all do different things. I’m considering a universal remote to solve this problem. I don’t understand why the TV plays a tune when turning on and off and I can’t find in the manual how to stop this from happening. The internet options look interesting, though I’ve only tried YouTube so far. YouTube videos play, but they look really poor because of the compression put on them and they don’t have the same controls that are available on the web site. Standard cable TV doesn’t look very good either because of the quality of the signal. Those old channels were much clearer on my old “tube” TV than with this new one. I mostly stay in the HD channels because of it. Most of these complaints have nothing to do with the Samsung TV and that’s why I gave it 5 stars anyway. I just want any new HDTV folks to not be surprised by the quality of standard programming.

(time for an upgrade). i really wanted a 16″ but couldn’t find one, so i settled for the lg 19″.br /br /i recieved this tv in prompt time (ordered march 19th standard shipping, recieved march 25th via ups). setup was a breeze. i programmed this tv with a universal remote that i already had for use with my old tv. the picture comes in great. volume is awesome. there is a slight delay when changing channels, but i got used to that fairly quickly. also, i’ve been so used to turning on my tv and immediately it comes on.. the lg takes a few seconds, but i expected that with any new tv i would purchase. i love the fact that there is a sleep setting on this set. i also love the fact that there are different picture settings i can choose from. i can set my own or use the preset natural, cinema, sport, or vivid settings.. (there may be a few more i forgot to mention). the same with the sound.. i can set my own or use the preset options instead.br /br /the sound and picture quality are good with the set, but they are not the best that there is out there. if you’re looking for a less pricey set to meet your basic needs, this is the tv for you.br /br /i love the fact that this tv is fairly mobile. i’ve moved a lot in the past, and i can’t stress enough how much of a pain it is to have to unhook every cord and cable from a big bulky set to move. this set is light and sleek looking. the stand does not swivel, which is kind of a downer, but the pros definitely outweigh this one con. also, i love the fact that there is cord management in the back. a cheap little plastic clip can hold all of my cords together to help hide them a bit and make this lg tv look a little more impressive. the plastic clip is a little cheap yes, but it’s in the back of the tv, so who cares? br /br /it’s a great tv and i would definitely buy a larger one for my living room when the time is right.
