CHEAP Samsung SyncMaster 2333HD HDTV Widescreen LCD Monitor (Glossy Black)

I was shocked at how well this tv acts as a monitor when I plugged my pc into it’s DVI-D slot. It is sharper and brighter than my purpose built 22″ Acer monitor!.
The TV picture is good, maybe not as good as the new LG I returned because it did not have a DVI-D input.
TVs run smaller than monitors (which are the size they state). Hence, this 23″ tv screen is almost as large as my 22″ monitor, which is nice when running dual monitors as they are almost the same size.
This tv has a headphone jack that the LG did not have, so I run that out to a powered subwoofer and speakers intended for a pc, providing much better sound.
One drawback from my 23″ Olevia I replaced was this monitor does not have analog RCA plug input (red, white, yellow) which I was wanting for my security cameras.
This little TV has the blue light at the bottom center just like my big Samsung in my living room. Kind of cool.
The thing is made so that it tilts upward while sitting in its pedestal. I have a purpose built stand on my desk to put it at the level I need, so I have to place a coaster under the rear of the pedestal to tilt it forward so that the screen is exactly vertical.

CHEAP Toshiba 15LV506 15.6-Inch Widescreen LCD TV with Built in DVD, White

I have been hunting for months for a good quality white digital flat screen TV for my kitchen window ledge. This is the only “choice” out there……if you are looking for a 15″, this is it! Seems impossible, but it is true. This is the only 15″ available from a manufacturer that you have actually heard of. br /br /Not only is it the only one available, but it only comes with a DVD player, so don’t bother looking for a TV without the DVD. You do get a choice of color: black or white, so don’t gripe!br /br /Another thing you need to know, is that TV manufacturers no longer bother to include an antenna with their sets, so if you are like me and are actually planning to use THE AIRWAVES to receive programming, you have to purchase a digital antenna in order to receive anything resembling a broadcast. This is not a choice, this is a necessity. If you do not subscribe to cable or direct TV or satellite or whatever, YOU NEED TO BUY A DIGITAL ANTENNA! Again, its not a matter of better reception, its the only way you are going to get reception. br /br /With that in mind, I purchased the RCA ANT1500 Large Multi-Directional Digital Flat Passive Antenna (White) which promised to bring in a maximum number of analog and digital chanels and look unobtrusive in the process. br /br /The TV and antenna both arrived today and I was able to get them hooked up and running in less than a half an hour and that included removing them from their boxes and reading the instruction booklets, programming the set, neatening up wires, etc. br /br /The TV is attractive and surprisingly, almost alarmingly light weight. It is a cinch to pick up and move around. This is not the set of yesteryear, when you needed to be a weightlifter inorder to pick up a “portable” tv. This set is light, like a big Kindle on a stand.br /br /I live in New York City and without the antenna hooked up to the TV I was able to get no programming whatsoever. Zilch. No picture, no sound, nothing. br /br /The antenna is a flat white slab that the TV is able to sit on top of. You can also stand the antenna upright or hang it on a wall. The antenna comes with a cable (how thoughtful!) that is easily attached to the TV. It requires no electricity. All connections are clearly marked. br /br /Once attached together and the “Automatic Programming” set up, I was able to get 3 analog and 47 digital chanels! While many of the 47 digital chanels are in foreign (not English)languages, all the New York local network stations came in bright and clear and ultrasharp.br /br /The sound is maybe not as loud as I would have liked but it certainly is loud enough for most circumstances. You will never turn this baby up to 11! br /br /Some reviewers complain about the TV taking an extreme length of time to turn on and then to switch stations. This is true. The tuner is very pokey. I know that digital receivers take longer than analog ones but this seems to be slower than most. We are talking about seconds here, but it does seem slow.br /br /Other reviewers complain about the large “bright light” on the front of the set that glows blue when the set is on and orange when off. Yes, there is a light and I really don’t see the big deal, its not a kleig light or a torch. Also, if you are among the ones who find it irritating, you can go in to “Set Up” and turn it off. I admit it does seem a bit gratuitous. Why provide a “decorative” on/off light when you could have supplied something far more useful…..like an antenna? br /br /I am delighted with the set. The price was right, the size is perfect, the picture very good. And, if I ever want to watch a DVD while I am cooking, I know I can!br /br /br /br /

I originally purchased a Sony KDL-325000 which I returned due to my dissatisfaction with its handling of SD signals, and the poor whites which I never could adjust to look accurate. This Samsung looks much better displaying standard definition broadcasts and, with its greater contrast ratio, has much better shadow detail than the Sony. The Samsung’s whites are far superior and it even has deeper blacks, typically a Sony strong suit.
Unfortunately there are no free lunches. Another reviewer mentioned, and I agree, this tv has a problem displaying reds. After spending literally hours adjusting the picture controls using the AVIA test dvd, I still wasn’t able to obtain accurate color and hue using the blue tinted filter. Subjectively the Samsung’s colors look excellent, except that bright reds can sometimes appear as more of a darker, maroon color. Anyway, the effect is relatively mild and not nearly as distracting as the Sony’s grayish whites.
Overall, I am quite pleased with the Samsung and plan to keep it. Just make sure if you purchase one of these sets to turn down the back light, which even in the “standard” and “movie” modes is much too high. I obtained the best picture with the backlight turned down to “3″. Avoid the “dynamic” setting if you have any pretension at all of obtaining an accurate picture.

Wow – very happy with this TV. I had a small LCD TV in my bar – an aging 15″ and wanted something just a tiny bit bigger. I wasn’t expecting the leap in image quality from the same video source though thanks to the more expensive TFT screen on this model. The blacks are deeper, the colors finer and the image quality is much sharper. Don’t be put off by the 800:1 contrast ratio either; this figure is the static contrast ratio amount and is not the fluffed-up much higher dynamic contrast ratio that most other TV manufacturers’ specs boast. 800:1 is more than enough for a 22″ TV – in fact most movie theaters only operate on a contrast ratio of 500:1 so I applaud the makers for showing the actual static figure.
There’s a plethora of inputs including HDMI, SPDIF and a pure analog VGA input so this could easily double up as PC monitor too. A large extensive remote and the low price seals the deal for me.

CHEAP Samsung LN19B361 19-Inch 720p LCD HDTV, White

I wanted a small TV for the bedroom so I wouldn’t have to use my boyfriend’s obnoxiously huge gaming TV to play my Wii. His TV stretches and blurs the crap out of everything that isn’t Blu-ray. I had to request a replacement when the first TV I received had a faulty stand that wouldn’t adjust properly. It was stuck in the wall mounting position when I wanted to set it on my dresser. My boyfriend unscrewed the attachment to discover the mechanism was broken. If the stand doesn’t adjust when you are pressing the button in back, the mechanism is broken so don’t force it.

CHEAP Panasonic VIERA S1 Series TC-P42S1 42-Inch 1080p Plasma HDTV

I couldn’t decide between a plasma and an LCD, so I bought both (with the intention of returning one) and set them up side by side, my cable hookup going to both. The plasma was a Panasonic TC-P42S1, the LCD was a Samsung LN40B630. I did my comparison channel-by-channel with lots of different programming, ranging from talk shows to cartoons to action movies to football games, in both high def and standard def.
Both are very good 40-42 inch TVs, in my opinion. Once I had adjusted the settings to my liking, I was hard-pressed to say that one looked notably better or worse than the other, though each had its strengths and weaknesses.
The Panasonic plasma had slightly more vibrant colors than the Samsung LCD. Blacks were noticably blacker and dark blues and purples looked deeper. The off-angle viewing was fantastic on the plasma, too. With the LCD, a smidge of color was lost when you shifted from 0 to 45 degrees. From deeper side angles, the picture was still watchable, but definitely shifted towards gray.
However, the Samsung LCD had a brighter, crisper image. In a dark room, details stood out better, and any programming that wasn’t dark looked a little sharper. During the day, with the sun shining in, the LCD’s image held up a bit better, too.
Motion is supposedly better on plasmas, but I couldn’t really tell when comparing to a 120Hz LCD. Both TVs did equally well with typical television, and what blurs I saw seemed to be in the source material. I watched a football game for a while, but if the plasma gave a better viewing experience, it wasn’t terribly obvious to me. Then again, I’m not a big sports fan, so maybe my eye isn’t discerning enough.
Color accuracy seemed great on both TVs, but the Panasonic needed some adjusting to get there. The picture is too green with the default settings.
Both TVs did a near-equal job with standard def programming (aside from the differences above).
Sound: adequate on both. I have a surround-sound system, so I didn’t really care.
Hardware failures: I’ve read complaints about both brands — seems like it’s a roll of the dice either way. I went with a 4 year warranty.
Other stuff: the Samsung had a better remote, a nicer menu system, and more fine adjustments available. I also like the swivel stand and the fact it’s a lot lighter than the Panasonic. I didn’t try the internet features on either TV.
Overall, both are very good TVs, and all but the most picky videophiles would be happy with either. In 2009, both plasma and LCD have come a long way and which technology is “better” really boils down to your wallet, viewing conditions, and personal preference. It was a tough choice for me, but, in the end, the bright, crisp picture of the Samsung won out. I can live with marginally less vibrant colors, weaker blacks, and imperfect off-angle viewing (if I watch from the other room, I’ll swivel the screen).

CHEAP Samsung LN19B360 19-Inch 720p LCD HDTV, Black

I was tasked with getting a small TV to put in my parents’ kitchen. After reading lots of online reviews and looking at some sets in local stores, I finally decided to take the leap with this unit even though there were complaints of sound quality and small viewing angles. I have several friends with larger Samsung LCDs and they all have been very satisfied, so I trusted the brand.
I’m rather glad I did. This TV now sits on a counter between the main kitchen and the dining area, and while it’s not obviously not as clear from every angle as it is straight on, its horizontal viewing angle is at least as good as other LCDs I’ve seen and better than many. We don’t really test the vertical viewing angle much since it’s waist to chest height, but it seemed acceptable to me when I sat on the ground in front of it.
I was only marginally concerned about the sound since they have the option of passing the audio through to the kitchen zone of the distributed audio system, but the speakers hold up well for what they are. Don’t expect the same sound that comes out of the sound bar of a 42-62″ TV since these speakers are appreciably smaller, but they fill the fairly large kitchen/dining area just fine. Don’t know if I got a great unit or it’s just quieter in our place than other reviewers’, but I don’t see us having to turn it up much higher than 60 out of 100.
Can’t really comment on the overall picture quality as they’re just running standard definition to it at this point, but the colors are great.
Very much recommend this model to anyone looking for a small basic set.
Pros
- Good colors
- Easy to set up
- Price: got it for 1 shipped during a special
Cons
- Muting the sound on the unit doesn’t mute the pass-through sound signal
Neutral
- Sound isn’t as good as larger TVs, but this is to be expected with smaller speakers.

I’ll be honest, I had done all my research and decided on a Sony 1080p/120Hz 37″ set. So, I went to Best Buy and was looking around at everything, from every angle and switching the channels from the demo mode they show in stores to the air channels. This one was out on the floor as an “Open Item,” so I studied it for a long time, looked at every channel, turned up the sound, and everything checked out. Plus, it was 0 below retail because it was an open item.
Since the one I really wanted was twice as much (the low end model, at least) and we’re trying to save money overall, I went for this one. I have watched DVDs, my Nintendo Wii, air channels, DTV network channels, and I am pleased! I have decided that it depends much more on the source than the TV for good picture. The HD channels show up better than the air channels.
The Best Buy near me has stacks and stacks of them as I write this, so go out andpick one up!
